My Vitamin C Serum: A Love Story
An Enchanted Meeting
When I was living in Brooklyn in my twenties, a confluence of events led me to be introduced to what would become my favorite skin care product OF ALL TIME! Having entered my late twenties, I had just come to the realization that I should probably start taking care of my skin. Conveniently, at around the same time, a jewel box of a skin care store called Miomia opened around the corner from my apartment.
I remember feeling anxious when I walked into the store, as I had absolutely zero knowledge of skin care brands or regimes. But the owner, Katie Chang, instantly put me at ease. She asked a few questions about what my goals were and pointed out a few products that she thought would work for me. I can’t remember any of the products I bought during that visit, aside from my holy grail of skin care, Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum.
It’s one of the few products I’ve ever come across that has produced real, noticeable results. The vitamin C in the serum brightens the skin and gives it a healthy, dewy glow. Since I was at the beginning of my skin care journey when I discovered Truth Serum, I didn’t realize how rare it was for skin care products to actually do what they’re advertised to do, which caused me to unknowingly set my bar for skin care performance sky high and to be majorly bummed out by dozens of products I’ve tried since. Thanks a lot, Truth Serum!
14 Years Later, Still My Fave
Over the years, I’ve tried to quit Truth Serum, but I cannot. Periodically, I pushed it aside to try something newer or cheaper or more expensive or more popular, but literally none of them perform as well.
On one occasion, I convinced myself that the Truth Serum was causing redness on my cheeks (I think it may have been crazy pregnancy hormones?), so I stopped using it for a few weeks, and I could immediately tell the difference. My skin looked duller and felt less bouncy, so back to the Truth Serum I ran!
After 14 years using this product, I’ve embraced the fact that it’s a permanent fixture in my skin care regime now. From twenty-something Brooklyn fashion person to 40-year-old frazzled mom/entrepreneur, Truth Serum has seen me through a lot, and I can’t wait to see where we go next!
